Paulo Coelho : The Alchemist (Review)
The novel is written in a very beautiful and systematic manner. The story revolves around a boy who comes out of his comfort zone to accomplish his dream.
Actually, the story is not just about the kid in the book but every individual out there in this world.
Nothing is possible unless we come out of our comfort zone.
Albeit we tend to remain in the cocoon but this is not the solution. The world we are living in today would not have been the same if every individual had thought for his comfort zone.
One can only grow and achieve when it hits out its limitations and boundaries.
Every successful human being we talk about has done something different from others is able to achieve what he/she has today.
The message of the book is "When you desire something from the heart even the whole universe conspires you to achieve it."
The message is very strong and clear that one should follow his dream no matter what it takes to it.
The story is all about the boy who used to be a shepherd in his hometown and wandered from one village to other in search of food and money. He ha started loving his life and eventually enjoying his serenity.
But one day he dreamed of finding treasure in the sands of Egypt. He dreamed it twice and became elated to find it. He went to see a woman who used to tell about the future and eventually told the boy to move forward to fulfill his dream. He has never heard of Egypt and did not know how to reach there. One day he was sitting in a bar when an old man met him and persuaded him to fulfill his dream and brought him out of the dilemma he used to be in. Finally, he sold all his sheep and crossed the river to reach Egypt. There was totally a new life, new language, tradition, and people. He was even robbed by the local and lost all his money he had. He many times thought to leave all this and come back to his original place but the desire to find the treasure to accomplish his dream was much bigger than the failure he had.
Eventually, he worked in the local market for money and became a very successful manager and earned a lot in about 12 months. Interestingly the owner of the shop taught him a lesson.
The owner was earning so that he can visit his holy place "Mecca" but never visited because it was his only motto in life. "The day you don't have a goal in life, life becomes miserable."
Later the boy started moving to the pyramids and amid met an Englishman. The language was a constraint between then so he used to read his book which was on the Alchemist, a person who can convert lead into gold. The Englishman was in search of such an Alchemist and wished to meet him in the desert. The journey began and after few days they reached a place where humans lived known as Oasis. The boy fell in love with a girl there and thought that this is the destiny he got his treasure and should live there only. But girl convinced him that he should persist his journey and fulfill his dream of what he has come here. Finally, he met the man who has changed his life The Alchemist. He taught him some beautiful lessons of life and assisted him to attain his only goal in life. He reached to the pyramids, dig well but found nothing. He laughed and became furious.
Few tribesmen met him there robbed him beat him and told him that he will not die.
One of the tribesmen told him that he also dreamed of treasure in a church in Spain but he is not that mad to leave all his life to accomplish his dream. The boy got the lesson, he went back to his native place and start digging in the church where he finally found the treasure.
So the story is all about to fulfill your dream you have to come out of the comfort zone and need to work endlessly in the direction to accomplish it.
Many people will conspire against you, try to demotivate you but a strong will, desire to fulfill the dream will give you power and hope. This book is all about being selfish and doing what you think will make you happy, regardless of everything else.
